Tweed Shire Women’s Service is a community managed organisation which
provides a range of services for women in the Tweed District.
The primary objective of the Service is to empower women to make their own life
choices through support and referral, crisis accommodation, advocacy and
education and information within a non-judgemental, safe and nurturing
environment.
The further objective of the Service is to raise community awareness of issues
affecting women and children with a particular emphasis on domestic violence.
Women and Children’s Refuge provides safe and secure accommodation and support
services to women and children who are escaping domestic violence.
We provide:
Intake Workers - are available from 9:30-4. Drop in to the Resource Centre for
assistance (no appointment needed) or Contact Us by phone on 02 6672 4188. We
can be contacted with a variety of concerns including issues ranging from
domestic and family violence; accommodation; legal matters; family support;
emergency relief; and issues with children etc. Intake workers provide
information, support, and referral to other programs or activities within the
TSWS, as well as external agencies. With the view of improving outcomes, we have
access to a vast resource directory that covers the geographical regions from
Southport to Lismore.
Crisis Counselling – Marg is the Crisis Support Worker at the Women's
Resource Centre located at Murwillumbah. Marg has 15 years experience working
with women, children and young people in crisis services on the Gold Coast and
Tweed, predominantly in the area of domestic violence. Marg is committed to
working with women in respectful ways by providing information and resources and
focusing on their strengths in a safe supportive environment as they work
towards taking control of their lives. Marg is available for crisis
counselling, support and information Mondays, Tuesdays and alternate
Wednesdays. Women are able to make appointments, receive support over the phone
or alternatively drop in to access a worker for brief support, information and

Support Groups and Workshops - We provide workshops that cover areas of
support to pure fun for more information about current groups check out the web
page at www.tswomen.org.au
Internet access – free broadband internet access for women. If you are
unsure how the computer/internet works staff are on hand to help you print
letters, set up email accounts, look up real estate or give a quick computer
lesson. We also provide access to photocopies and fax machines - if you're
unsure on how they work staff are there to help.
Library- we have an extensive library covering a variety of topics
including self esteem, health, grief, domestic violence, parenting, Indigenous
issues, fiction, cooking and much more. Books are free to borrow with id. Use
our library area to have a read and a cuppa. Staff are available to assist you
in looking for books or use our library database to search for books, authors or
subjects.
Women's Space - within our library area is a women's only space in which
women can come in and relax, have a coffee, breastfeed babies or browse our
other services. All women welcome.
Childcare - is provided 3 mornings a week for women who are accessing
groups, intake, crisis support workers or for women wanting to use the computer,
browse the library or have a cuppa. Childcare is available with a gold coin
donation. We ask that parents provide a drink and snack. Places are limited so
please book.
Outreach Legal Worker - The Northern Rivers Community Legal Centre visits
TSWS the 4th Thursday of every month. Bookings are essential. Information
about other free legal services are also available through intake workers.
Free Condoms - Come in and help yourself to our condoms (discretely
located just into the front door). Or ask staff for free dental dams.
FREE Bread - Hungry? Come in and help yourself to our free bread.
Meeting Rooms - are available upon booking for non profit groups.
Femail – our bi-monthly magazine Femail is a great way to learn about
local services and issues affecting women and children. If you have a creative
flair please feel free to contribute artwork, poetry, short stories etc.
