Australian Breastfeeding Association

The Australian Breastfeeding Association offers information, encouragement and support to breastfeeding mothers and their families.

Breastfeeding Counsellors are mothers who have breastfed for at least 9 months and have done a programme of training in breastfeeding knowledge and counselling skills.

Breastfeeding Counsellors will listen to your concerns and offer suggestions to help you work out the best solution for you. Breastfeeding counsellors can help you with suggestions on: how to establish breastfeeding, express and store breast milk, increase milk supply, cope with breast refusal, combine working and breastfeeding, introduce solids, wean your baby. The association sells easy to read booklets on these and many other topics. Booklets are available from your local group for $5.50 each or online at www.mothersdirect.com.au.

Breastfeeding Counsellors offer a confidential service available by phone 7 days/week, and in person at discussion meetings. Email counselling is available at www.breastfeeding.asn.au. Volunteer breastfeeding counsellors are busy mothers.

If local counsellors are unavailable please call the NSW Breastfeeding Helpline 7 days/week on 02 8853 4999

Meetings are a place to get together with other mothers and babies, share experiences, and make friends. Please phone one of the counsellors below to get a copy of the meeting programme (details current at 24/4/08):
