Educational & Care Facilities for Children
The number of different types of child care available can be overwhelming
and confusing particularly for first time parents. To assist you in
understanding the types of child care available we brought together some of
the most commonly used child care options in our region, with a brief
description of each. We hope you find this useful when trying to determine
the type of care that would best suit you and your children.
Family Day Care
Summary:
- Home based with registered providers, supported by a local
co-ordination unit and resource worker. Hours are flexible. A small
family group settings - safe, secure
and stimulating home environment.
- Aimed primarily at
children from birth to five years but can assist primary school children and
may assist older children in special or emergency situations.
Care providers must be registered with a Family Day Care Scheme and hold a
current First Aid certificate.
- Each carer must abide by state licensing
requirements and participate in the National Accreditation Process. Regular
visits are made to carers by trained fieldworkers who also run play sessions
and monitor your child’s wellbeing, learning and progress.

Family fee subsides are administered via the Child Care Benefit (CCB).
