Murwillumbah Community Health

We aim to improve the health of the people in the Murwillumbah and outlying areas by working with individuals, families, another service providers and the wider community. Appointments are necessary for most services in Community Health made either by phone, or in person.

Community Health services are Free.
Some relevant services, among many others, are:

Paediatric Therapy Team

This team is made up of:
- Occupational therapists who focus on developmental, cognitive and perceptual abilities, upper limb use, fine motor skills, participation in 
- Speech language Pathologists, whjo foocus on speech sound development, expressive and receptive language skills, voice, stuttering and swallowing / feeding difficulties.
- Physiotherapists, who focus on physical development, motor function, posture, coordination, and the heart and lung systems.

Anyone can refer a child to the Paediatric Therapy Team with parent / carer permission. To refer, phone 07 5506 7540. The team holds sessions at Murwillumbah.

Child & Family Health Service

A diverse team of Child Health nurses with specialists in Parenting Education, Early Obstetric Discharge, Child and Family Nurses and Paediatric Nursing. Child and family nurses provide child developmental checks, sleep and settling advice and support, breastfeeding, feeding and solids, Immunisation, Pre-parenthood advice, Health promotion and Education.

Immunisation Clinic
3rd Thursday of each month, 10 - 11am (Appointment Please Book)
Drop in 9.30 - 10am and 11 - 11.30am

Child and Family Health Counselling

Provides psychological assessment, individual counselling and family therapy for families and children 0 - 12 years of age. Groups, community education, training, support available to the community.

Womens Health Nurse

This service is held at our Centre fortnightly by appointment and provides Pat Tests, Breast check, Pregnancy testing, Postnatal checks and other related services. Phone: 6670 9400

Sexual Assault Services

Provides counselling and support to Adults, Young people and Children who have been sexually assaulted, including non-offending parents / carers and other family members. Provides groups for survivors of sexual assault, court support, community education, 24-hour crisis support. For further information contact Tweed Community Health on 07 5506 7540.

Preparation for Parenthood program

It is important to book in after your first ante-natal doctor's visit. A seven week format includes a welcome, settling in, start of labour, when to come to hospital. Then your labour and birth journey choices, relaxation and breath awareness techniques, back care, posture and pelvic floor exercises. Becoming a Mother or Father. A tour of the Women's' Health Unit. Baby Steps Parents Group

A support group for parents with babies 0-3 months, that meets every Tuesday and gives all new parents the opportunity to share experiences with other new parents and the child and family nurse. All mums, dads and grandparents are welcome and we look forward to meeting you as soon as you go home from hospital or until your baby is 3 months old.
